In the Heights, In the Square

Walking through time square with 40 middle school students- quite a thrill. Lemme tell you. Tonight my school in Harlem took some of their honor roll/well behaved students to see a new musical called In the Heights. Ironically, it was pretty much a play about my students, or at least their cousins who live uptown.

Such a cool experience to see through that lens, through their eyes, about their lives, immigration, mix of Spanish and English, different home countries, flags flying from their fire escapes. It's all real, and they knew they were being represented in an artistic way, cause every time I turned around in my seat I could see their faces beaming towards the stage. Loved it!

Here's some of my kids posing in Times Square before the show!
