La Vie Boheme

Even though I wasn't feeling 100%, I ventured out and down to Union Square today to see a free, live screening of La Boheme at Dan's High School. His school is part of a global project set up by the Metropolitan Opera in New York City to make operas free/cheap and available to the masses. Several high schools and other learning institutions in New York hosted these events for free, and Dan's school just happened to be one of them. If you are interested in reading more, go here.

The opera was really quite good, paralleling with the story I know from Rent almost to the T. I was amazed at how similar it was. I knew Rent was based on this opera, but I just guess I never knew that the entire storyline was ganked right from the original. It's crazy! I would suggest reading more if you are interested. Also, this might be a good article to compare the two hits.

I think one of the coolest parts (besides MOWING down on a box of doughnuts...should we say that the meal plan is officially botched?) was the school auditorium. Built in 1901, the school was like a visual masterpiece. A museum, meant to educate children. Although I get the feeling that the kids loose a little of the specialty when they go through the metal detectors each day. Here is the foyer.

And here is the auditorium, complete with a pipe organ. Yes. That's right. A pipe organ!

I spent the majority of the afternoon and evening tonight at Barnes and Nobles paging through an Ireland travel guide looking for fun things to see in Northern Ireland when I go to visit friends there in a week or so. :) I'm stupidly excited for that.

Later, took a jaunt to Jersey, yes Jersey, to watch a few movies with my friend Brad, who looks like a Weasley from Harry Potter. Then end.
