It was my birthday, and I was in my bathing suit of course! I ALWAYS spend my birthday by the water. Swimming is an imperative activity on my birthday, no matter where in the world I am! There has to be a beach or a pool involved!

This year was no different! We left early this morning to head out to Coney Island for the day. I did this two years ago as well, and it seems to be the perfect birthday activity because it involves the beach, Coney dogs, and rides and games! A couple teachers from my Harlem school came along (Dave and Catherine +friends) and Kate, and Heather came into town for it too! (Dan has gotten sick, so he couldn't come). It was a beautiful day to sit on the beach, and even though the water isn't the cleanest part of the sea I've ever been in, it was hot enough to take a dip or two.

We got hot dogs for lunch with lemonade and chowed down on the boardwalk. When we'd had enough sun (and believe me, I got enough sun!) we took a walk up to the amusement park and rode the Cyclone roller coaster. Don't know if many of you have ever ridden a rickety old wooden roller coaster, but this one takes the cake I think! I think I got whiplash on the first hill. It was nothing but hills, and it was scary and crazy and WICKED! We all got off holding our heads, but saying that we're glad we did it once. I might go again...who knows. It was pretty awesome.

A BBQ was had tonight at my apartment. We fired up our new grill that my mom sent to me! Thanks mom! We made kebabs and eveyrone brought lots and lots of fruit salad. My friend Catherine brought her Guitar Hero game for our Wii and we also did a rendition of Islands in the Stream. Embarassing in front of co-workers?...sorta. Worth it? yes!

I made sangria, which seemed to be a hit, and spent quality time skewering things with our toes on my party porch. I love that party porch. All in all, a birthday well spent! Loved it! Now only if I could go backwards in years...
