With my venture up to the Harlem area for the start of the professional development (PD), I've become intrigued by the eateries of Harlem. Soul food abounds, many sandwich places, chicken places, fruit vendors that look like they've been there for years...
I've been to Harlem several times, but today, and I'm sure the rest of this week will be an eye opener in the perception of life there. We are doing a group research project, while learning about this so that we can later take it back to teach at our schools. So now, I'm taking a different approach to looking at the history of the places I pass on the bus, to the people. I find myself wondering how much they are aware of the footsteps they walk and how the place they stand is so very deeply etched in history. I wonder...
